Obituary
Charles Earnest Combs, 68, of West Van Lear passed away June 18 in Ashland after a long period of declining health. The former building contractor was born in Floyd County to the late Charlie B. and Dora B. Howard Combs. His wife, Lucy Blair Combs, survives him. Other survivors include two sons, Charles W. Combs of West Van Lear and Warren Lee Combs of Raceland; a daughter in Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Betty Fraley; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also survivint are a brother in East Point, Virgil Combs, and five sisters, Dora Crider of Childsburg, Anna Lois Stapleton of Springfield, Ohio, Lillian Hale of Lexington, Olive Behrle of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sally Baxter of Richmond. The Rev. J. H. Burton conducted services June 20 in the chapel of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, which supervised interment afterward in the family cemetery at Leander.
