Obituary
Crate Ward, 68, died Sunday, December 14 in a local hospital after an illness of several months. A retired miner, he was born at Barnetts Creek on March 5, 1901, the son of the late John W. and Rhoda Salyers Ward. He was a resident of Leander at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, the former Ethel Hitchcock; a son, Chester Ward of Denver; a daughter, Gloria Mae Blair of Barnetts Creek; two brothers, Edgar Ward of Barnetts Creek and Zollie Ward of Paintsville; a half brother, Hager Ward of Carey, OH; three sisters, Mary Salyer of Hamden, OH, Cora Lewallen of Van, WV, and Emily Wadell of Miamisburg, OH; and four half sisters, Gladys Tackett, Margarett Wickam and Josie Higgenbaugh all of Carey, OH, and Bonnie Petminkie of Los Angeles, CA. Melvin Blanton and Robert McCarty officiated at the funeral services today, Wednesday, December 17 in the Liberty Baptist Church of Denver. Interment followed in the family cemetery at Denver. The Paintsville Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements
