McConnell May, 59, of Leander died Friday, August 18 at his home following a sudden illness. He was a miner and was affiliated with the United Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Ballard and Minnie Spradlin May. Immediate survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Preston May, two sons at home, John Walter May and Paul David May, four daughters, Connie Jo May, at home, Linda Stylers of Columbus, OH, Alka Salyers of Plain City, OH, and Janet Ward of Denver; six brothers, Patrick May of Louisa, Arnold May of Paintsville, T. H. May of Leander, Hargus May of Jackson, MI, Ted May of Wheelersburg, OH, and German May of Oil Springs; and seven sisters, Virgie O’Bryan of Paintsville, Dora Blair of Winn, Alka Nichols of Marion, OH, Myrtie Blair of Leander, Malta Blair of Denver, Ruby O’Keefe of Indianapolis, IN, and Omega Curmitt of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services were conducted by Lonza Reed and Virgil Howard on Sunday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at the Beechwall United Baptist Church. Burial followed in the May Cemetery at Leander under direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Paintsville Herald, Wednesday, August 23, 1972
